How to Play SUMS

SUMS is a free daily number logic puzzle. Fill a grid by placing numbers in order using adjacent sums. Mini SUMS is 5×5; Full SUMS is 7×7. New puzzles publish daily at midnight Eastern Time.

Rules, step by step

1. Read the starting grid. Gray numbers are pre-filled clues. Empty cells are yours to fill. Some boards also include black squares that block movement.
2. Place numbers in order. Start with 1, then 2, then 3, and continue in sequence. You cannot skip ahead. If a clue already shows the next number, that clue counts as placed.
3. Select cells that add up to the next number. Tap two or more adjacent cells whose values sum to your target. Each selected cell must touch the next cell in the chain. Example: 1 + 2 = 3.
4. Place the sum in a touching empty cell. Tap an empty cell that touches the start or the end of your selection. That cell becomes the next number in the sequence.
5. Use clues to plan ahead. Later gray numbers constrain earlier placements. Leave a valid path so you can still reach those clues after the numbers in between are filled.
6. Fill every empty cell. The puzzle is complete when every playable empty cell has a number. Undo is available if a placement blocks the rest of the path.
